biography

Michel Assenmaker is an artist, writer, curator, and educator. He taught modern and contemporary art theory in Brussels for forty years and is the author of numerous texts, as well as two books: one devoted to contemporary art and a novel. He has curated exhibitions in Brussels, Antwerp, Luxembourg, and Marrakech, and has collaborated with artists such as Giovanni Anselmo, Stanley Brouwn, On Kawara, Sherrie Levine, and John Murphy. His lectures and seminars have been presented in Belgium, France, the Netherlands, Italy, and China. His artistic practice brings together images, objects, and ready-mades, exploring the relationships between memory, language, and perception.

Assenmaker was Assenmacher

Of Rhenish origin

Making axles, axes

Everything is said

Or almost

A manufacturer, a craftsman, a maker

Things put together

Mostly images

Ready-mades

In the end

Things, objects, exhibitions

Some of them failed

Some of them are really good!
